History of Holy Trinity Church in Paraćin
The temple is historically very rich, because prior to its built, there was a church on this site that was converted 3 times to a mosque during the Turks. It was first dedicated to the Holy Apostle Peter, then to St. Athanasius the Great, and the third time it was translated into an Orthodox temple dedicated to the Holy Trinity. However, it had failed so much that it had been turned into a grain warehouse, then it could no longer serve it, and the citizens demolished it.
The construction of the present-day church began in 1863, occupying an area of 6 acres and 4 meters, the bell tower is a trademark of the town of Paraćin and is 57 meters high and the main dome to the top of the cross is 38 meters high.So the church at that time was magnificent and famous, and today it remains the largest church in Pomoravlje. Otherwise, until recently it was the fourth largest church in Serbia.
When the church was erected in 1864, Prince Mihajlo Obrenović visited the town of Paraćin, and as he entered the hotel across from the church, he saw the bell tower swing, as a strong wind blew.Otherwise, the old bell tower was where we now light the candles. He said, "People, this bell tower is swinging, it will fall on your church!".Indeed, during the prince's stay in Paraćin, the bell tower fell, demolished all the domes of the church, and afterwards stood 38 years in ruins.
At the end of the 19th century 1898-1899 the church was rebuilt and in the Holy Trinity with the presence of King Alexander Obrenovic and the hand of the Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovac Inokenti (because Paracin belonged to the Belgrade-Karlovac Metropolitanate) was consecrated. On the picture Metropolitan Inokenti.
This iconostasis also dates from that time. Below the icon of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is written that all these icons were donated by Dina Mikić, who at that time was the Mayor of the Municipality. All these icons in 19 pieces were brought for Christmas from Moscow.Otherwise, since the consecration until 2000, the church was never painted. It was not until Vladika Ignatius came to the church that the church was painted and the painting began: an altar, a deacon and an altar measuring 384 square meters, otherwise the church has 1800 square meters for painting.
On picture is iconostasis of Church Holy Trinity in Paraćin.
During World War I, there was a plan to paint a church, but in brocade style like these cupola medallions. However, the Bulgarians burned that painting plan and the plan of Jovan Ilkić, who is the architect of this church.Of interest during World War I, the chief priest was taken captive by the Bulgarians, and the other two priests while the Bulgarian priests were serving were barred from entering the church.During this time the registers were kept by Bulgarian priests Ivanov and Danev and all our surnames were translated into Bulgaria. It was a representation that they wanted to rob us.On the picture is Church during WWI.
